Get to Know Series

New for 2017 is our Get to Know RTS Series. Over the coming months we will be releasing a series of interviews with different members of staff from Randox Testing Services. The aim of these will be to provide a greater insight into Randox Testing Services and allow visitors to our site to find out more about the different staff and the tasks they carry out on a daily basis, as well as other aspects such as hobbies.

The first person to kindly volunteer his time is David O’Regan. You can read his chat with us below.

Job Title

Business Development Executive for both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.

How long have you been with RTS?

I have been with Randox Testing Services two years and six months in total.

What does your job involve on a day to day basis?

My job varies greatly on a daily basis. The majority of my time is spent out meeting with both prospective and existing customers. Other parts of my role involve dealing with any queries or requests that these customers may have. These meetings would usually involve making presentations about our products and services, so a significant amount of time would also be spent preparing presentations and researching customers to find out more about their drug and alcohol testing requirements.

Other parts of my role would require me to complete various tasks such as quotations for customers who require prices from Randox Testing Services. A key part of a Business Development Executive’s role is ensuring the needs of our existing customers are met, therefore I would also provide training to companies who carry out internal testing and choose to avail of our consultancy services.

With such a large volume of customers and clients who I interact with on a daily basis I also regularly make use of our Customer Relationship Management System, which allows me to effectively plan my days and week so I make maximum use of the working day. This would vary between visits to customer sites, detailed calls or email communications.

Finally, with the number of customers I interact with, a large part of my time is spent travelling to and from different meetings and the office.

What’s the most rewarding part of your job?

The most rewarding aspect of my role is definitely when we acquire a new customer. It’s a great feeling knowing that the effort and communication has convinced them to use Randox Testing Services.

We always aim to provide a professional service so to secure new business is always rewarding, especially when it means they have chosen us rather than have a competitor carry out testing. No matter how big or small the business may be, once we have secured it then retaining and gaining repeat business is a top priority.

What’s the most challenging?

Covering all of Ireland can be very challenging at times. On any particular day I could have meetings or customer visits which require hours of driving. Therefore I have to plan my time very accordingly and this can be difficult at times as I also have to consider what suits the customers. With travelling to and from locations it also makes it difficult concentrate on a particular industry as I could meet with a transport company one morning then a construction company in the afternoon, whose requirements are going to differ significantly. This in turn also makes my role exciting, as no two days are ever the same.

What’s your favourite thing to do outside of work?

Outside of work I enjoy watching rugby. I always take time to watch the Ireland rugby team and have an involvement with my local rugby club.

Thanks David for taking the time out of your busy day to speak with us! We will be posting more of these over the coming months who cover a range of different roles; including business development, marketing, logistics, scientists and much more.

Keep an eye out on our website and social media profiles, using #GettoKnowRTS for future interviews.
