Medico-legal testing for drugs and alcohol may be required by legal services and various professional bodies involved in child custody cases, care proceedings or child protection cases.

At Randox Testing Services, we provide testing for professionals within the legal services sector. Randox Testing Services is a UKAS accredited Testing Laboratory, No. 4348, and continue to develop and register accredited methods for the purpose of Medicolegal testing and work in partnership with approved subcontractors to support all profiles of testing necessary.

How does it all work?

Complete our online quotation request or send an email to enquiries@randoxtesting.com detailing the testing you require. A quotation will be emailed out to you for approval.
Once approval is confirmed we can schedule your sample collection appointment for a date/time that suits.
Our collection team will attend your site, no need for GP involvement or DIY kits.
Sample collections carried out using strict chain of custody procedure.
Full transparency during sample collection process.
Samples sent directly to the testing lab by our collection team.
Analysis completed, and results issued by email by our lab office.

Drug Testing

Urine & Oral Fluid – Instant Drug Screening & Confirmation

Urine testing will cover the last 5-7 days, oral fluid will cover the last 1-2 days.
Randox Testing Services provide back to Laboratory Urine testing using Randox own Biochip Array Technology for a wide range of Drugs of Abuse. Presumptive Positive Screening in all instances are supported by LCMS confirmation testing.
Randox Testing Services also provide 12-panel instant urine and 10-panel instant oral fluid testing devices for the assessment of recent substance consumption.
Confirmation of presumptive positive results following POCT testing is carried out as standard.

Hair – Drug Testing

A detection window of 0-12 months is available dependent on length. 1cm equates to roughly 1 month of analysis. Our standard testing is for 0-3 cm, which equates to 3 months (approx.).
Positive hair drug test results demonstrate frequent use or exposure to a drug.
Head hair and body hair are used for analysis. Axillary & pubic hair are excluded.
Bespoke hair drug panel available on request.
Other substances are available on request.

Alcohol Testing

Hair – Alcohol Testing

Ethyl Glucuronide (EtG) is tested as standard and is a direct biomarker formed in the liver when alcohol is consumed.
A detection window of 3-6 months is available dependent on length (head hair should be at least 3cm in length). The concentration EtG detected will give an indication of levels of alcohol consumption over the preceding 3-6 months (approx.).
Head hair and body hair are used for analysis. Axillary & pubic hair are excluded.
Additional hair alcohol makers, such as Ethyl Palmitate (EtPa) & Fatty Acid Ethyl Ester (FAEE), are also available if requested directly via our main office.

Blood – Alcohol Testing

PEth (Phosphatidyl-ethanol) is a direct alcohol biomarker that only forms in the body when ethanol is present making it the most specific test to assess alcohol consumption levels. The test involves spotting a drop of blood from a small finger prick onto a test card. There is no need for a venous blood collection. The dried blood spot (DBS) is sent to the laboratory for analysis.
Unlike other traditional Alcohol Biomarkers PEth can be used to assess a specific window of detection of 30 days, following periods of alcohol consumption or single instances of binge consumption.
The concentration of PEth detected will give an indication of levels of alcohol consumption over the preceding month (approx.).
Additional blood alcohol makers, such as Liver Function Testing (LFT) & Carbohydrate Deficient Transferring (CDT), are also available if requested directly via our main office.

DNA Testing

DNA testing is the process which enables the positive identification of genetic relationships between people. It is commonly used to establish if a man is the biological father of a child, however other types of DNA testing are available to determine relationships or family connections.
